🔴 Tsingy Rouge – The Fragile Red Cathedral of Nature | Northern Madagascar 🇲🇬
Located about 2 hours from Diego Suarez and around 3 hours from Joffreville, the journey to Tsingy Rouge is already part of the adventure. After leaving the main road, we take a crossroad and continue through an off-road track toward the eastern side of the region, close to Irodo village and the Indian Ocean.
Suddenly, in the middle of this wild landscape appears one of the most surprising geological formations in Madagascar: the Red Tsingy.
Unlike the famous limestone Tsingy, this formation is made of:
🔴 Laterite soil – rich in iron oxide, giving the intense red and orange colors
⚪ Clay and sandstone particles – creating the different layers and shapes
🟡 Natural minerals – producing beautiful variations of yellow, pink, and white colors
Created by the work of rain, wind, and erosion, the Red Tsingy is a relatively young geological formation. Nature is still sculpting it every year. The sharp towers and delicate shapes are very fragile — some formations may disappear after heavy rainy seasons, while new ones slowly appear as erosion continues.
Every visit can be different because the landscape is constantly changing.
🌅 Best time to visit:
The magic happens during the morning or late afternoon, when the sunlight is softer. The red, orange, and golden colors become stronger and create amazing reflections and shadows — perfect for photography.
The dry season is the easiest period to visit, when the road conditions are better and the formations are more visible.
Tsingy Rouge is not only a place to see — it is a reminder that nature is always moving, creating, and transforming.

🏝️ Nosy Hara – The Secret Archipelago of Northern Madagascar 🇲🇬
For travelers looking for a real adventure far from the crowd, Nosy Hara Archipelago offers one of the wildest and most preserved experiences in northern Madagascar.
Located northwest of Diego Suarez, this marine paradise is a protected area where limestone islands rise dramatically from the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
🚙 How to get there?
The journey starts from Diego Suarez (Antsiranana) by car, following the road toward the west coast. After around 2 to 3 hours of driving, including off-road sections depending on the season, we reach the coastal village of Ampasindava (the main departure point).
From there, we continue by traditional boat to reach the islands of the Nosy Hara Marine Protected Area.
The adventure begins between sea and stone:
🏝️ Deserted islands with white sandy beaches
🐠 Snorkeling in crystal-clear water full of marine life
🪸 Coral reefs and colorful fish
🧗 Hiking on limestone formations with spectacular viewpoints
🌅 Wild camping and unforgettable sunsets
Nosy Hara is also famous for its exceptional biodiversity. The islands are home to unique species, including the Brookesia micra, one of the smallest chameleons in the world, discovered in this region.
The limestone formations here are ancient coral reefs lifted above sea level over millions of years, creating sharp rocks, caves, and breathtaking landscapes.
This place is not just a beach destination — it is a journey into a lost world where ocean, geology, and wildlife meet.
