Here in Ampefy, we can witness nature’s power at work: from the impressive Lily Waterfall cascading over volcanic rocks to the vast, serene waters of Lake Itasy stretching as far as the eye can see. This is a place where wildlife, water, and earth come together to create a truly unforgettable landscape.

🗓️ Perfect Day Circuit

Antananarivo → Analavory Geysers → Lily Waterfall → Lake Itasy → Virgin Islet 

Second day return to Tana

👉 Full day excursion (7–8 hours in total) 

Here are the main activities possible at Îlot de la Vierge (Ampefy):

🌊 1. Canoe or Boat Ride

Take a small canoe or local boat to reach the islet. It’s a calm and scenic ride on Lake Itasy.

🧗 2. Short Climb to the Statue

Climb the steps to the Virgin Mary statue at the top. The walk is short but slightly steep.

📸 3. Photography

Beautiful panoramic views over the lake, volcanic hills, and countryside — perfect for sunrise or sunset pictures.

🙏 4. Quiet Reflection

It’s a peaceful and spiritual place. Some visitors go for prayer or quiet meditation.

🐦 5. Nature Observation

Enjoy fresh air, birds, and the calm lake atmosphere.

💧 Lily Waterfall (First Waterfall)

⏳ Recommended Time: 45 minutes – 1 hour

👀 What to See:

  • A powerful waterfall dropping about 20–25 meters

  • Volcanic rock formations

  • Green vegetation around the canyon

  • Rainbows in the mist (on sunny days 🌈)

🎯 Activities:

  • Short walk from parking to viewpoint

  • Photography (best in the morning)

  • Nature observation

  • Listening to local stories about the waterfall

  • Relaxing break during your Ampefy tour

⚠️ Swimming is not recommended due to strong currents.


💦 Lily Waterfall II (Second / Smaller Waterfall Area)

⏳ Recommended Time: 30 – 45 minutes

👀 What to See:

  • Smaller cascades

  • Natural pools (depending on season)

  • Peaceful rural landscape

🎯 Activities:

  • Light walking

  • Photo stops

  • Enjoying fresh air

  • Sometimes picnic (if allowed)

🔥 1️⃣ Volcanic Origin

“This region is volcanic. Underground gases, especially carbon dioxide, push the water up through small openings in the ground.”

🎨 2️⃣ Red Color

“You can see the red and orange color around the geysers. This comes from iron and mineral deposits left by the water over time.”

💨 3️⃣ Continuous Activity

“The geysers erupt regularly, but gently. The height can vary depending on underground pressure.”

Enough time to:

  • Take photos

  • Observe mineral formations
